Pandit Sugato Nag from Kolkata, India, is one of the finest Sitar virtuosi amongst the present generation. He has toured extensively in India (where he is an A grade musician of All India Radio), as well as in the US, Canada, Germany, France, UK, Holland, Japan and Mexico. He is now coming to Australia for a few concerts - including one in Melbourne on 2 June.
Sugato Nag's training started at the age of eight, under the guidance of various maestros of sarod and sitar.
Sugato will perform live and acoustic in the Global Village this Sunday, along with renowned local tabla player Jay Dabgar. We'll talk about the styles of music, the process of learning and teaching - as well as hearing some sweet, melodious examples.
