Hermeto Magnético is an octet dedicated to uncovering the repertoire of the legendary Brazilian virtuoso Hermeto Pascoal, whose music ranges from an eclectic mix of popular Brazilian music influences to improvisation, jazz, and classical, and who is known for a musical creativity that goes beyond conventions as it is 'neither jazz, nor bossa nova, nor samba’.
This ensemble features some of the best musicians on Melbourne's music scene; percussionist Al Kerr, bassist Sean Connelly, flautists Asha Henfry, Emma Knight and Erin Kersing, mandolinist Jake Piddington, singer Heather Brooks and leader Montaña Rose on guitar.
Hermeto Magnético presents Pascoal's through-composed music in a chamber setting, and are excited to currently be the only ensemble in Melbourne dedicated to exploring and understanding the music of Hermeto Pascoal.
Montaña Rose will be the guest of the Global Village to play some examples of their music - and introduce us to the music of Hermeto Pascoal.
