Jean-Pierre Smadja (or Smadj) is a Tunisian-born, Paris-based oud player and producer. He's here in Melbourne for several shows, and will be playing live to air in the Global Village today - and talking about his diverse musical interests ... with acoustic and electric ouds, electronics and so on.
Then in the second hour, we'll focus on the music of Greek ney player Hárris Lambrákis. Hárris is part of Savina Yannatou's Primavera en Saloniko group, here for a show this Thursday at the Thornbury Theatre and then to WOMADelaide. He has engaged in substantial collaborations with Stelios Petrakis, Ross Daly, María Símoglou and others - and we'll hear some of these sublime recordings, along with music from his own quartet.
