Sona Jobarteh was born in London, but has lived much of her life in The Gambia. She is the new generation of a long-standing griot family, and the first woman from these families to play the kora. In addition, she builds instruments - the kora (21-strong West African harp) and the nkora, an amalgam of kora and ngoni (the hunters' harp).

Sona played at last year's Rudolstadt Festival in Germany. After her performance, Roger Holdsworth sat down with her and they talked about her music, her instruments and the tradition.

You can hear this interview this Sunday, April 17th in the Global Village: 5-7 pm.
