Bashka is a Melbourne-based group whose roots stretch to Turkey and beyond. They play music that is influenced directly or indirectly by the many various forms of traditional Turkish music, and also to a lesser extent others such as Persian, Arabic, Balkan and Greek music. It's music that comes from years of life spread between two cities: Melbourne and Istanbul, many gigs, and many, many incredible musicians.

Bashka's long awaited album "Fihi Ma Fihi" is being launched on Saturday 27th of August at The Night Cat. On this album there are as many as 12 languages spoken amongst the musicians performing on it.

On Sunday 21st August, members of Bashka will visit the Global Village to play some examples from the new album and to talk about the musical influences you can hear. Tune at at 5 pm to hear some dance music from the dirt streets of Turkey.
