Saray Iluminado play new interpretations of Sevdah from Bosnia and Herzegovina and Jewish Sephardic music from the Balkans. Formed in 2013, Saray Iluminado draw on the practices of traditional Sevdah and Sephardic masters of the past two centuries to create intimate participatory musical gatherings and new vocabularies for the expression of its authentic musical imagination.

Nela Trifkovic (voice, frame drum) is a Bosnian-Australian artist. In the realm of folk music, Bosnian Sevdah and Sephardic Jewish songs are Nela's greatest passion. They have been an integral part of her life and upbringing.

On Sunday 21st August at 6 pm, Nela will visit the Global Village to play some examples of Sephardic music in particular, and to talk about its traditions. This will lead up to a performance by Saray Iluminado on Sunday 28th August at the Melbourne Sephardic Syngagogue in St Kilda East.
